A science lover

A bit about my education
I am Hung (full name: Nguyen Manh Hung) from Hanoi, Vietnam. I started with an engineering degree in Biotechnology from Hanoi Open University (HOU) in 2014. Then I spent around a year working as a lab technician at the Faculty of Biotechnology, HOU and a short period at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. In late 2015, I began my international education by taking a master's program in Plant Science at Tel Aviv University, Israel. From mid-2017, I started to work with the tropical seagrass Halophila stipulacea for my M.Sc. thesis with Dr. Gidon Winters (Dead-Sea and Arava Science Center, Israel) and Dr. Yuval Sapir (Tel-Aviv University, Israel). From that point, I became fascinated with seagrasses, the extraordinary marine plants. In June 2018, after joining the World Seagrass Conference in Singapore, it became clear to me that I wanted to become a scientist and seagrasses must be the topic of my PhD research. Soon after the meeting, I applied and got accepted for a PhD position at Dr. Gabriele Procaccini Lab at Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (SZN), Napoli, Italy working in a seagrass project. From October 2018 to October 2021, under the supervision of Dr. Gabriele Procaccini (SZN), Dr. Lázaro Marín-Guirao (Centro Oceanografico de Murcia, Spain) and Dr. Mathieu Pernice (University of Technology Sydney, Australia), I conducted a series of mesocosm and field experiments studying the effect of thermal stress memory and local adaptation to extreme environments in seagrasses.  In March 2022, I was awarded a PhD degree in Biology from The Open University (UK).

What I am doing
Since May 2022, I have started my work as a postdoctoral research fellow at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. My main job now is to investigate physiological and molecular responses to single and combined stressors related to climate change and eutrophication on seagrasses.

What I am up to
In the future, I want to contribute my role as a scientist to widen human knowledge about nature, protect nature and promote sustainable development. Moreover, I want to become a great science communicator to deliver knowledge to more and more people in the world because I always believe education is the key to a bright future.
